This past weekend my eldest son appeared as “Charlie Brown” in his high school production of “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown”. To show my support I decided to paint my nails to resemble the familiar yellow and black zig-zag of one of the Peanuts most famous characters.
I used three coats of ‘Daisy’ by Julep with a simple black line drawn with a Sally Hansen nail art pen. It’s amazing how such a simple thing brought so many compliments and smiles. Even my son thought it was pretty cool.
Sally Hansen nail art pens are available at most drug or beauty stores. They are great fun, easy to use and come in a variety of colors. Julep polishes are available at Sephora and online at Julep.com. They offer a great range of colors and have a distinct long thin square bottle (making it easy to store a large collection). ;-)
This month in my Julep Maven * BoHo Glam box I received a complementary bottle of America – The Beautiful polish, just in time for the Fourth of July.
Julep says “America the Beautiful is a shiny red with royal blue glitter and sterling silver stars, it’s like nail art in a bottle!”
I say it’s a like Elmer’s Glitter Glue with a brush, only a heck of a lot sticker. You can peel off glue, this stuff practically need a sledgehammer to come off! Glitters can be tricky and require a light hand. No matter what I tried, I looked like my three year old son had given me a manicure.
Since I could tell it was thick and knew complete coverage would be an issue, I elected to layer America – The Beautiful over Rescue Beauty Lounge (“RBL”) Medium White. I also used RBL 3 piece treatment system. Despite all my preparation, this manicure was a HOT MESS! Such a shame since it’s so pretty in the bottle and I’ve had no other complaints about Julep’s formula.
My BoHo Glam box also included:
Mischa, cherry scarlet micro-shimmer.
Georgia, golden coral micro-shimmer.
Poppy, peachy coral creme lip vernis.
All seem lovely and trouble free!
*Julep Maven is a program where you receive a box of goodies from Julep every month featuring products they select based on your responses to a style quiz. Frr $19.99 a month I receive 2 full size polishes (that retail for $14 each!) and some extra goodies – full size peru prep and file, cosmetic bag, full size lotion, etc. It’s actually a pretty good deal (I find it a better value than Birchbox). If you’re interested, here is my referral link – I get points or something.
