Despite what the Rolling Stones might have you believe, you can get Satisfaction. With Lexi Blake’s newest installment in her Lawless series (a Masters and Mercenaries spinoff), you’ll even get what you need — an escape from post-holiday madness, with revenge plots, murder attempts, yummy millionaires, serious sexytimes, and a villainous domestic goddess.

At least it’s the escape I needed after 12 dozen trips to the mall, 300 cookies (baked and eaten), 3 weeks of kids on winter break and endless Christmukkah wrapping.

Lexi Blake’s Lawless series follows the four orphaned Lawless siblings as they carry out their revenge plot against those responsible for their parents’ murder. After watching the toll their plans took on his brother Riley and his ladylove in Book #1, Ruthless , youngest brother Bran decides to go rogue and subvert eldest brother Drew’s scheme to bring down their next target, Pamela Cain.

Patricia Cain was an early investor in their father’s technology who benefitted greatly from his death – and the Lawless children’s resulting misfortune. The plan was to bring Patricia’s “lifestyle celebrity” business down from the inside, by Drew seducing her vulnerable personal assistant, Carly Hendricks.

Patricia is part Martha Stewart, part Miranda Priestly (The Devil Wears Prada), with a smattering of Bellatrix Lestrange (Harry Potter), and a dash of famous cougar Mrs. Robinson (The Graduate).

Bran decides on a crazy option – telling Carly the truth and asking for her help destroying her evil boss. Turns out to be one of the best decisions Bran ever makes, since it brings the genuine and caring Carly into his life (and his bed). For a man who barely survived his childhood in the foster care system, finding a woman who makes him feel so at home by her mere presence is a godsend. Watching Carly bring true light into Bran’s life is very … satisfying. 😉

The horrors of his childhood, including separation from his siblings, have caused Bran to develop a strong protective sense and an explosive temper. Seemingly lighthearted most of the time, Bran has depth and shadows to his character that author Lexi Blake does a wonderful job exploring.

Unexpected twists and revelations drive the suspense plot surrounding the ultimate goal of justice and the mystery surrounding the death of the Lawless parents. The action scenes are intense and exciting, as they always are in a Lexi Blake book; same goes for the private action scenes between Bran and Carly.

In Satisfaction, Lexi Blake once again combines her special blend of intrigue and passion, for a compelling, and surprisingly tender, adventure.
