I'm biding my time until I can get the hell out of here.
But I didn’t count on having unfinished business
With one of my very best friends…
When a man has a certain “reputation" to uphold,
There can be no unhappy customers left behind.
Lauren is a loose end that won’t be tied up no matter how hard I try.
And I try hard. Really, really… hard.
Sex God is the much-anticipated follow-up to Sex Machine.
Today we are celebrating the release of SEX GOD, a sizzling hot stand-alone contemporary romance title by Marie Force. Check out the purchase links for the book above. The previous book in this standalone series, Sex Machine, is just .99¢ for a limited time, so make sure you grab it while you can!
What happens when best friends finally give in to their sizzling attraction only to find more fizzle than fire?
Marie Force’s newest release, Sex God tells the the story of Lauren and Garrett, who have been best friends since sixth grade. They share a special bond that cannot even be broken by Lauren’s brief, unfortunate, marriage to another man. Undeniable chemistry once lead them to give into temptation – with disastrous results. The fact that Garrett has a reputation with the ladies as a “Sex God” doesn’t help Lauren’s insecurities over their less than stellar roll in the hay. Will they find the courage to risk giving their spark another chance to ignite?
Author Marie Force adds a delicious spin to the idea of friends to lovers by letting her protagonists experience bad sex – at least the first time. After learning Lauren blames herself for their disappointing coupling, Garrett makes it his mission to make certain she realizes she is everything a man could want in his bed (and shower and kitchen counter and living room … Garrett is very determined to prove his point). Now that he and Lauren have fixed their, er … problem, it isn’t long before the idea of forever becomes a real possibility. If only Garrett wasn’t seriously entertaining an offer for his dream job – six hours away.
Since his senior year in college, Garrett lived his life for others: his suddenly widowed mother, his younger siblings, his father’s memory, his employees and clients. Fearing he missed his shot with the only woman he’d ever wanted to settle down with, Garrett finally seeks a new path in the hopes he can fill his need for something more. When a future with Lauren becomes a real possibility, Garrett must decide if his restlessness is because he needs to move on, or because he needs to put down roots. Bet you can’t guess which one he picks. 😉
I feel there was a missed opportunity to add greater weight to Lauren’s characterization by not exploring her tragic past and its emotional consequences more fully. Garrett’s complaints almost seemed superficial compared to what Lauren went through once a glimpse of her backstory was provided. There are only a few paragraphs about her painful childhood and a deeper exploration of her past would have added gravitas to the story. That’s not to say Garrett doesn’t have legitimate gripes. By the end of the book, I was frustrated on his behalf over how much everyone ‘needed’ him, personally and professionally. Upon learning of his interest in a new job, one character admonished, “honestly, Garrett, what were you thinking? You know how much we all rely on you.” Gee, I don’t know, maybe he was thinking he was an adult who was free to find his own happiness and professional fulfillment.
The steamy scenes in Sex God are explicit (as one would expect), but also very grounded in true, deep emotion. While I would have liked some issues beefed up a bit, Marie Force’s loyal beefcake Garrett won me over. He proved being a so-called “Sex God” is irrelevant if your heart isn’t satisfied.
SEX MACHINE is currently on sale for .99 cents!
