ADD TO GOODREADS:
What happens in Aspen is definitely not staying in Aspen . . .
A girls' trip to Aspen was exactly what Shay needed to forget about her toxic ex-boyfriend. She's got her girls, pristine slopes for skiing, and hot guys everywhere. Of course, her epic self-rediscovery goes completely to hell when a wild (and deliciously hot) skier knocks Shay on her ass . . . and war is declared.
Kolton doesn't know what it is about Shay that makes him lose it. Not just his cool---although she does have an unholy gift for that---but his restraint. When anger gives way to explosive chemistry, they're both shaken with the intensity of it. But somewhere between lust and hate, Kolton and Shay realize they could have something real . . . if they don't kill each other first.
From the first line, it’s clear readers are in for an amusing ride in author Kelly Siskind’s latest romantic adventure, My Perfect Mistake.
Canadian cutie Shay Gallagher hits the slopes of Aspen with her closest friends with the intent of regaining the spark and sass she lost during her long relationship with her boring and controlling ex. She symbolically tosses off her constraints (in the form of a bra thrown from a ski lift) and embraces her empowerment.
As Shay chases freedom down the side of a mountain, she–literally–runs right into her Kolton, her dream ski hunk. After trading insults and barbs Kolton and Shay go their separate ways, only to have Fate intervene and force them together. More barbs, more insults, and an incredibly passionate round of sex later, Shay and Kolton decide to live in the moment and enjoy their scorching chemistry for the duration of their vacation. When Kolton proposes they rekindle their liaison during his summer-long visit to Toronto for work (he’s from Vancouver, on the other side of the country), Shay turns him town, citing her recent break-up as the reason she’s not ready for a real relationship.
And this, my friends, is only the beginning of the story…
My Perfect Mistake is a genuinely entertaining story, featuring one of the most relatable heroines I’ve had the pleasure to read. I seriously want to hang out with Shay while we sample cupcakes across Canada. Her insecurities in the face of her ex’s passive-aggressive bullying was heartrending. She rediscovers her inner strength and independence, although she still needs to learn the lesson of balance.
Kolton could have easily been written as a “to good to be true” hero but author Kelly Siskind tempers his character with enough flaws and quirks to make him more believable and thus even more lovable. Kolton opens his life up to Shay and welcomes her into his world with loving (and deliciously sculpted) arms. His faith in her talent and acceptance of her true personalty provide Shay with the boost she needs to believe in herself and follow her heart. Plus the man definitely knows how to woo! Wooing for the Win!
The secondary characters are all well fleshed out and interesting, adding distinct voices to the narrative. I can’t wait to read more about Kolton and Shay’s friends. Here’s hoping Kolton’s assistant Stella gets her own story!
Kudos to Kelly Siskind for crafting a funny yet complex relationship that’s satisfying on many levels! Skip the slopes and curl up with My Perfect Mistake and some hot cocoa (and some cupcakes) instead.
